UPDATE: Morgan Hill roads back open after train accident
UPDATE 2/23/15 4:55p.m.: Morgan Hill Police say all roads are back open Monday evening after an investigation of an accident involving a Union Pacific train and a car.
The accident happened just before 1:30p.m. when, according to Union Pacific, a train heading south, collided with a pickup truck at the crossing on San Pedro Avenue and Railroad Avenue.
Union Pacific train spokespeople say the car attempted to drive around the gate arms at the time of the collision. No injuries to the crew or driver were reported. The incident is under investigation. UP personnel are currently at the scene.
Union Pacific and police are reminding people that pedestrians, bicycles and cars need to be aware of the hazards associated with trains and should never be on the train tracks or attempt to cross one without following the proper signs.
2/23/15 2:55p.m.:
Morgan Hill Police say that Main Ave., Dunne Ave., and San Pedro Ave. at the train crossings are all closed.
Police are saying the closures are due to an accident involving a Union Pacific Freight train and car.
Be advised Tennant and Cochrane remain open to traffic. The closure is expected to last up to 1 1/2 hours while the accident investigation is done.
