Salinas Police: Robbery and attempted murder suspect injured while fleeing
Friday Salinas Police told NewsChannel 5 they know who robbed Star 1 gas station and El Kiosko taco shop on Williams Rd. on Tuesday.
Detectives say 20-year-old Angel Perez has robbed this same gas station and taqueria twice recently. On Tuesday morning though, detectives say he shot the clerk selling tacos because he was taking too long getting the cash out of the drawer.
Police say when Perez took off, they believe he injured his leg and may need medical care, “”If somebody comes in with suspicious injuries they may need to notify us,” said Sgt. Jeff Gibson.
Police are asking all hospitals and medical clinics to be aware of Perez, or are asking if staff treated him recently.
Perez has a tattoo on his neck of the name “Deimi.”
The bullet grazed the taco clerk’s head and is recovering. The Star 1/El Kiosko owner is offering a $3,000 reward for anyone who has information that will lead to the arrest and conviction of Perez.
“We need to find him quickly. I don’t think the injury, in and of itself, it may have slowed him down, but I don’t think it’s going to stop him. I think as soon as he’s well enough, he’s going to resume his activities as far as robberies and assaults and we don’t want it to escalate beyond what it already has,” said Gibson.
