Emaciated pelicans turning up in odd places
Pelicans are turning up in odd places on the Central Coast. Wildlife Emergency Services said several adult birds have been found emaciated, and far from the ocean.
“We’ve found one in Aptos, near the college. Actually in the college pool. There’s been reports up in the dump above Hollister, the San Benito County dump,” said Duane Titus with Wildlife Emergency Services.
Titus guessed it’s happening because of a lack of food near the coast. They believed warm temperatures are pushing the sardines into deeper waters. If you spot a pelican, call Wildlife Emergency Services at 1-866-WILD-911.
