“Cash for College” helps students apply for financial aid in one night

Between taking care of her siblings, doing homework, tutoring after school, and waiting to hear back from colleges, Ariana Arriola has a lot on her mind.

“I have been stressed out at many moments,” Arriola said.

With the cost of college going up, she’s applying for financial aid, like many of her peers at Sobrato High School in Morgan Hill.

According to the College Board, tuition averaged $30,000 for private colleges for the 2013/2014 school year and nearly $9,000 for state schools across the United States.

On Tuesday night, Arriola attended the first of six workshops on the Central Coast called “Cash for College.” Local educators sit with families as they apply for aid so they can have their questions answered then and there.

Many students were apply to apply in just one night.

“It’s more like a one-stop shop, right,” Sobrato High School Counselor Ted Thomas said. “So come on in and get this application done.”

During the workshops, students are able to learn about FAFSA and Cal Grant applications.
