UPDATE: Salinas Police make arrest on weekend shooting of 13-year-old

UPDATE 1/20/15: Salinas Police announced Tuesday, investigators made an arrest for the weekend shooting of a 13-year-old boy.

Investigators say the victim was walking with a friend on Santa Rita Street, when 18-year-old Jose Christian Regalado approached the boy holding a gun. Investigators say Regalado challenged the victim with a gang related comment and quickly shot the victim.

As the investigation progressed, detectives were able to identify Regalado as the shooter and arrested him at his home.

Regalado was booked in the Monterey County Jail for attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and gang enhancements.

Investigators are looking for witnesses or anyone who may information regarding this incident. Witnesses are encouraged to contact the Salinas Police Department Investigations Division at 831-758-7226.

1/17/15: Salinas police are investigating a shooting on Santa Rita Street in North Salinas.

They said there is one victim with non life-threatening injuries.

It happened just before 8 p.m. Saturday, police said.

Streets were blocked off in that area.

There is no suspect information and Salinas police are not releasing details of what led to the shooting.
