Salinas man rescued from ravine
A man had a near death experience in Salinas.
An ambulance transported a man the Salinas Fire Department said was stuck about 25 feet down in the muddy water of the ravine that boarders the Salinas Fairways Golf Course.
They say the man was walking his dogs this morning when he slipped and fell.
Fire crews estimate he was in the water for an hour and thirty minutes before he was discovered, and it took thirty minutes to get him out.
They say he was taken to Natividad Medical Center’s Trauma Center with mild hypothermia.
Firefighters spotted a few kids playing near the canals and say parents need to be cautious.
Battalion Chief Brett Loomis said, “It’s very dangerous. The canal walls are very steep, they are very slippery. We use ladders to get down and ropes to get back up, so it’s very easy to fall in and without anybody being supervised.”
Chief Loomis added this type of call is very rare, but said when and if the rains to come again, this canal can fill up very quickly.
There is currently no word on the condition of the victim, but fire crews say his dogs are being looked after by his family.
