Greenfield Little League teams moved to new field
Greenfield Little League season sign-ups start this week.
However, the teams will not be playing at their usual field.
This season, the little league teams will be moving to a new location after last year’s continuous vandalism problem at the old field.
Last year, the Greenfield Little League snack bar was a hot spot for vandals.
The thieves stole the league’s cash, baseballs, announcer’s PA system, and even snacks.
The little league had about $4,000 in losses.
Now, the little league president says they are moving to a new location in Greenfield — one that is more visually open and less likely to have theft problems.
Brent Slama, President of Greenfield Little League, said, “We can secure it as much as we can, but at the end of the day if someone wants to break in, they are going to. So it’s just a matter of we have to be more careful of what we store and it’s sad that it’s come to that.”
Patriot Park on 13th and Elm Avenue had two baseball fields and a softball field.
A tee ball field and new lights are also things contractors will start on next week.
The lights will be paid for by the city.
The fields will eventually have new scoreboards, and a snack bar with built in bathrooms.
The little league season begins in March.
