Hit-and-run suspect falls 120 feet down embankment

The California Highway Patrol said a suspect in a hit-and-run crash fell approximately 120 feet down an embankment after he fled the scene just after Sunday.

Just after 10:00 a.m., the 19-year-old suspect driving a 2002 Honda Accord, was driving southbound on Highway 101 in Morgan Hill when he hit a 68-year-old man driving a 2011 Lexus, according to CHP. The suspect fled the scene taking the Bailey Avenue exit.

CHP said the suspect failed to make a left turn and collided with a fence. The suspect’s vehicle overturned multiple times as it fell several feet down an embankment, according to officers.

The 19-year-old had a broken leg and trauma to his abdomen and was taken to San Jose Regional Medical center. CHP said he was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence but was released to the care of the hospital.

The victim in the Lexus did not suffer injuries, according to CHP.
