Sand City murder under investigation
Police say two people were shot at the intersection of Fremont and Military just after 10:30 Monday night. However, both victims were found across the street, in Sand City.
The male victim told police he and a woman were driving on Military Avenue when a grey sedan with two to three Hispanic men inside pulled up and opened fire. Police say the victim managed to make it to the crossing on California Avenue where first responders found him. He was taken to the hospital for his injuries. The female passenger, who was also shot, did not survive. Right now, there is no word if she actually died in Sand City or in Seaside where this all started. Police say there is no evidence leading them to believe this is gang related.
Residents said they do think crime has gone up quite a bit in the area within the last year.
Meghan Enos said, “It just seems like a younger crowd, I’m not really sure. Seems like it’s mostly people that aren’t from here. It’s hard to say.”
However, many say they still feel safe here.
Another resident said, “I’m shocked it happened here in this area. I come shopping in this area all the time. It’s always safe, no matter what time, especially during the holidays. I was here ’till 10:30, so I totally feel it’s a safe area.”
Enos said, “We live at the top. We like where we are. I was born and raised in Marina and Seaside. We feel pretty safe where we live.”
