Windy weather knocks out power as lines downed in Santa Cruz County
The cold blew in Tuesday night causing widespread power outages from Boulder Creek to Watsonville. Windy conditions also felled numerous trees and power lines. We’ve heard of several cases of trees falling into structures and in on case CHP reported a tree caving in a homes roof. No injuries were reported.
From high winds, down power lines and closed roads in Santa Cruz County, to the cold snap everywhere else, the weather is making itself felt.
Power lines were knocked down on Larkin Valley Road in Watsonville. The scene prompted first responders to closure of Larkin Valley at White roads. Power lines were hanging from trees above. When News Channel Five arrived at the scene there were no crews restoring power or fixing power lines.
This was the story over and over in the Santa Cruz county Tuesday night. At one point, there were over 20 reports of downed power lines. The number is likely higher than that.
On highway 9 in Ben Lomond, a big section of the highway is closed. Power lines and trees down has forced the California Highway Patrol to re-routing traffic to Glen Arbor Road, Quail Hollow and East Zayante Road. There’s no word on when the highway will be open.
The wind knocked the power out for thousands of PG&E customers in Santa Cruz County. PG&E reports the major outages areas are from Boulder Creek to Watsonville tonight. Power will be restored as fast as PG&E can get to it.
