Christmas tree recycling
Marina, Salinas and Santa Cruz are all providing Christmas tree recycling services.
The Monterey Regional Waste Management District (MRWMD) is providing free Christmas tree recycling in Marina through January 31st. Trees should be dropped off at MRWMD scales after all of the decorations, lights and stands have been removed. Flocked trees will not be accepted. The MRWMD is located at 14201 Del Monte Boulevard, Marina, CA 93933-1670.MRWMD Site Hours are: Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 4:00pm, Saturday, 8:00am – 4:00pm, LCM: Tuesday -Saturday 9:00am – 4:00pm. The Salinas Valley Solid Waste Authority offers Christmas tree recycling with drop-off and pickup service. Christmas trees will be picked up along with regularly scheduled trash and recycling from December 26 -January 30 in King City and unincorporated Monterey County; January 5 – 16 in Gonzales, Greenfield and Soledad; and January 2 – 23 in Salinas. The city of Santa Cruz also offers residents Christmas tree pickup for free. People who would like their trees picked up should put their trees out on their regularly scheduled trash collection day. Trees more than six feet long must be cut.
Santa Cruz residents also may have trees collected from their GreenCycle! cart. Branches must be trimmed so the tree fits into the cart with the lid closed and will easily slide out when the cart is serviced.
Santa Cruz residents can also drop trees off for free at the Resource Recovery Facility’s GreenCycle! area throughout January. The facility is open from 7:30am to 3:30pm Monday through Saturday, and is located at 605 Dimeo Lane.
