San Juan Batista nitrate levels have decreased

Since last summer the city of San Juan Batista has seen a steady decrease in the level of nitrates according to the City Manager. The city has been testing its water for nitrate levels since April.

The maximum level allowed by the State of California for pregnant women and for children is 45 milligrams per liter. Currently, San Juan Batista’s water is at 22 – 25 milligrams per liter.

The city will proceed with their plan to dig a new well. Test wells have been drilled and they are negotiating with property owners.
