Hollister police chief continues search for Jose Barajas

Hollister police officers are reminding the public about a case they say will never go cold for them. Hollister police Chief Dave Westrick has not given up on the search for Vanessa Flores who was kidnapped at gunpoint nearly five months ago. He says it is the department’s top priority.

Hollister police started the day giving away bikes to make Christmas a little brighter for some families in their community. But for the families of Ariana Zendejas and Flores Christmas isn’t going to be the same, as it’s the first Christmas spent without their daughters. All the more reason Westrick won’t give up on the investigation murder and kidnapping.

“I will never and I know our officers will never quit until we have found some sense of justice for these families,” said Westrick.

Police say Aug. 1 Jose Barajas shot and killed Zendejas, then kidnapped his ex-girlfriend Flores. Westrick reposted a reward poster on Facebook to spark new leads in the case. There is still a $25,000 reward for tips leading to Barajas arrest and up to the same amount for anyone who can help bring Flores home.

“We still need people to call us. We know that Barajas is getting help. OK, there is no way you could be away this long from your hometown, and your family and not be getting help.”

Flores’ family still has their Facebook page activated to keep the public updated on the case. Westrick still has detectives on the case. They are still following tips and Hollister police continue to work with the FBI and homeland security. Westrick said it is important to find Barajas and bring him to justice.

“Christmas is a few days away. Let’s bring some sense of satisfaction and closure to these families,” said Westrick.

Barajas is wanted for murder, kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon. Hollister police urge anyone with tips on the case to call 831-636-4331.
