Snoopy might be on the next California license plate

Snoopy might appear on California’s 2015 license plates while raising money for museums.

The license plate, which can be viewed and ordered at www.snoopyplate.com, has a picture of Snoopy by Peanuts cartoonist Charles Schultz along with the phrase “museums are for everyone.” Funds from Snoopy license plate sales will go towards a competitive grant program overseen by the California Cultural and Historical Endowment (CCHE) to help California’s museums.

According to Scott Horton Communications, the effort is more than two-thirds of the way toward becoming a reality. 7,500 paid applications for the license plate are required by the Department of Motor Vehicles before they will start issuing the plates. Sequential plates cost $50 and personalized plates cost $98. Supporters are hoping the number of orders needed will be reached prior to the January 31, 2015 deadline.

Next year marks the 65th anniversary of Peanuts.
