CHP: Suspect slams into patrol car after high speed chase in Scotts Valley

A high speed chase in Scotts Valley involved a spike strip and an eventual arrest.

California Highway Patrol officials said just after 6:30 Sunday night, a patrol officer tried to pull a Santa Cruz woman over for speeding.

She was traveling southbound on Highway 17, ignored the lights and sirens and picked up speed, CHP said. She topped out at 85 miles per hour.

The 23-year-old woman eventually exited onto Mt. Hermon Road, blew through two red lights and ran over a spike strip set up by Santa Cruz County sheriff deputies, CHP said.

Despite blowing out her tires, the woman proceeded to drive getting up to about 55 mph before turning into a business. Her car was physically stopped by a metal fence, CHP said.

She then tried to back up but struck a patrol car in the process, officers added.

The woman was arrested for alleged DUI, evading an officer and assault with a deadly weapon. The last charge referred to her crashing her car into the patrol car, CHP said.

Despite a minor cut to the suspect’s face and damage to both cars, no one else was hurt. She was booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail.
