Big Sur sees storm problems, surfers trying to catch waves

Road crews were on Highway 1 doing necessary work to try and keep roads clear ahead of and in the Big Sur area.

It was slow going as crews stopped traffic to try and fix power lines. PG&E got a call about a cut cable wire lying on a tree. Once the crew got to the site they had to leave their vehicle and cross over a fallen tree just to get to the downed power line. But this crazy weather didn’t keep everyone indoors.

“It’s pretty gnarly out here and we’re trying to find a surf-able wave, it’s pretty ridiculous but there is always the chance,” said Ross Vittetoe who lives in Carmel.

Surfers weren’t the only ones checking out the waves. People almost blew away with umbrellas while walking along Highway 1 near the coastline.

CalFire crews asking people to stay indoors, do not go outside unless it is an emergency.
