Watsonville reckless driving case now turned into vehicular manslaughter
The Prunedale woman accused of reckless driving and a special allegation of causing bodily harm to a 10-year-old boy in Watsonville is now facing vehicular manslaughter after the child’s death according to Watsonville police.
News Channel 5 has learned that 10-year-old Jesse Ventura died Oct. 22 at a Bay Area medical center according to Watsonville police.
Ventura was riding his scooter across Riverside Drive near Main Street with his family in March when Brenda Alcala-Velador sped through a crosswalk and hit him with her car. He suffered brain injury from the accident and was at the hospital ever since.
Velador pleaded not guilty to all charges in August. She is out on bail and will be arraigned on the new charge on Wednesday according to court records.
