Salinas store clerk fires shots at armed robbers
A Salinas store clerk fired shots at two men who attempted to rob his store Wednesday night.
According to Salinas police, the clerk and another employee were working the cash register at La Michoacana Market at 8:30 p.m. The two had just finished watching the World Series when two males wearing masks ran in while brandishing firearms.
Fearful of the recent Hot Stop market robbery turned homicide, the clerk pulled out a handgun and fired, scaring the would-be robbers off.
He went outside to see if he could determine a get-away vehicle or the direction in which the suspects fled, when one of them turned and pointed a gun in his direction.
The clerk fired again as the suspects fled down Towt Street.
At this time, police do not know if either of the suspects was struck. The clerk was released without charges.
Employees told NewsChannel 5 reporter Michelle Pulido that this wasn’t the first time they had experienced the kind of fear they felt Wednesday night. The east Salinas store has been in business for more than 30 years.
