Salinas Police: Man arrrested after driving erractically in stolen car

An 18-year-old was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft after Salinas officers saw him driving erratically Monday morning on East Alisal Street.

A community service officer spotted the vehicle near John Street and requested assistance. The driver, identified as Delfino Diaz, parked the car on Summer Street and left it unattended.

Diaz ran a short distance and then was confronted by a Salinas police officer, who took him into custody without incident.

The car was determined to have been reported stolen several weeks ago.

Diaz was booked into Monterey County Jail on suspicion of being in possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of an open container of alcohol and driving on a suspended license.
