Controlled burns at Fort Hunter Liggett set for next week

Fort Hunter Liggett’s Fire Department will be conducting controlled burning operations during the week of Sept. 22-26.

The burns will occur between 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

The controlled burns are meant to reduce vegetation in areas scheduled for training activities and prevent wildfires that could occur during training operations.

The area planned for the controlled burning has been divided into smaller sections that will minimize risk to personnel and smoke impacts on Fort Hunter Liggett and the surrounding communities. Individuals in the area should expect to see smoke during this period.

The Monterey Bay Unified Air District will be monitoring pollution levels and coordinating with the Fort Hunter Liggett Fire Department to help avoid health impacts.
