Deputies make arrest in rash of burglaries in Aptos

Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man they believe is connected to a rash of burglaries in Aptos, including one in which he allegedly left his cellphone at the scene.

Thomas Armstrong, 35, is suspected in three separate residential burglaries on Cuesta Drive in the past several weeks. He’s also suspected in a commercial burglary on Spreckels Drive and in an auto burglary on Baltusrol Way.

Armstrong is currently on probation for a previous burglary. Deputies arrested him at his home on Varni Road in Watsonville on Tuesday. He was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail.

In the residential burglaries, cash and medications were taken, and during the investigation, some of the specific stolen medications were located and recovered by detectives.

Armstrong was tied to the commercial burglary after leaving his cell phone behind at the scene.

Detectives believe Armstrong may be connected to other burglaries and thefts in the Aptos area as well. Anyone with information regarding these cases or who believes they may have been victimized by Armstrong is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division at 454-7611.
