Mountain lion linked to boy’s attack slain
Wildlife officials say it could take up to two days of testing to determine if they shot and killed the right mountain lion that attacked a 6-year-old boy on a Northern California hiking trail.
State wildlife spokesman Lt. Patrick Foy says that testing for rabies and other diseases on the 65-pound male cougar could be completed sometime Thursday. DNA testing could be completed as early as Friday.
Foy believes they have the right animal based on its description and it appearing about 130 yards from the attack.
Searchers and dogs found the juvenile cat on Wednesday, cornering it in a tree about 70 feet high before killing it after four days of scouring and setting live traps in a trail near Cupertino.
The injured boy was released from the hospital a day after he was attacked on Sunday.
