Burglary suspect escapes from Santa Cruz jail

A 30-year-old woman escaped from a Santa Cruz jail Tuesday afternoon, according to Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s deputies.

Teresa Johnson was being held in the Blaine Street minimum security facility on charges of burglary and violating probation, said Sgt. Kelly Kent.

She walked away from the facility Tuesday and was last seen by a witness running toward San Lorenzo Park in green jail clothing, where she then changed into a black hooded sweatshirt.

Kent said deputies are obtaining a warrant for her arrest on the walk-away charges.
