Santa Cruz County Arts Council planning new public art project

A new public art project in Santa Cruz is aimed at celebrating and raising awareness of the San Lorenzo River as well as the Tannery Arts Center.

A year-long public arts project will include activities and programs as well as temporary and permanent art installations.

The Ebb and Flow River Arts Project will begin on June 6, 2015 with a daylong celebration of the river and arts. It will include a “kinetic sculpture parade” and the unveiling of new Ebb and Flow sculptures.

Public input is being sought for the project, with two meetings planned for next month.

Organizers say they want to ” hear about your passions, ideas, and dreams for the San Lorenzo River. We’ll use your input to help co-design public art projects along the Riverwalk and on the Tannery Arts Center campus.”

Those meetings will be held the first week of September from 5:30 to 7 p.m. as follows:

Tuesday, Sept. 2: Santa Cruz Library – Downtown Branch meeting room, 225 Church St.

Thursday, Sept. 4: Radius Gallery, Tannery Arts Center Campus, 1050 River St.

More information can be obtained from the Arts Council.
