Public hearing on Highway 101 tree removal project set for Thursday in King City

Caltrans is holding a public hearing in King City Thursday on a tree removal project along Highway 101.

The state agency says its part of a safety improvement project along the highway in the Greenfield and King City areas.

The proposed project calls for the removal of approximately 320 eucalyptus trees as well as relocating overhead utility pole wires, among other upgrades.

The trees are not healthy, according to the agency.

Additional work at these locations would include applying permanent erosion control, removing and replacing damaged barbed wire fencing, installing planting with irrigation and constructing maintenance vehicle pullouts.

The agency says these efforts are necessary to improve safety, eliminate the potential of trees falling into the roadway and protect road crews who may be performing maintenance.

The public hearing will be held Thursday, Aug. 14 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Chalone Peaks Middle School, 667 Meyer St., King City.
