Search warrant contains new details about Hollister murder investigation

News Channel 5 obtained a copy of the search warrant used in the case being built against Jose Barajas, the man police say shot and killed a young woman and then kidnapped his ex-girlfriend. The search warrant contains new details about the investigation.

Vanessa Flores’ parents are still waiting and praying for their daughter’s safe. She has been missing for one week.

“I know we haven’t lost Vanessa but it’s like a part of you is missing,” said Enoc Flores, Vanessa’s father.

“He was very abusive to her verbally, physically, emotionally,” said Roccio Ibarra, Vanessa’s mother, referring to Barajas. “She was afraid of him.”

Last Friday, Barajas’ car was allegedly vandalized by a person he knew, according to the warrant. Barajas later found that person and fired at his vehicle but only struck Ariana Zendejas, killing her as she sat in the back seat, according to the warrant. Neither Barajas nor Flores were driving, the warrant further detailed.

“We never think this is going to happen to us, but you know what, it happened to us and I just want the community to get involved,” Flores’ father said.

Friday night, News Channel 5 found three of Flores’ friends posting missing person flyers around town but they declined to be interviewed.

“The information that we have been receiving from Hollister police is that there is the belief that [Barajas] is still in the area of Hollister,” Ibarra said.

Which is why police searched Barajas’ house Wednesday morning, and according to the warrant, police were looking for any clues to gang affiliation.

The Flores family plans to hold a vigil Thursday at 8 p.m. at a park near their house in Hollister.
