Monterey County Fair foundation’s tax-exempt status reinstated

The Monterey County Fair Heritage Foundation has returned to tax exempt status.

The news from the IRS comes just as the foundation prepares for a fair kick-off event on Friday.

Foundation leadership worked diligently with accountants and the IRS to resolve the issue/ The temporary loss of the foundation’s non-profit status was due primarily to tax document confusion when the organization’s name was changed from “Friends of the Monterey County Fair” to “The Monterey County Fair Heritage Foundation”.

The temporary loss of the non-profit status did not affect the donations the organization has received or ability to issue scholarships.
