One wounded in drive-by shooting in Watsonville Tuesday

Watsonville police officers are investigating a drive-by shooting Tuesday night that sent a 23-year-old man to a Bay Area hospital.

Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Prospect Street just before 10 p.m. for a reported shooting. They found the victim at the scene.

The victim apparently had been standing in front of a friend’s house, talking, when an unknown vehicle pulled up. One of the car’s occupants took out a firearm and shot at the victim, striking him several times in the upper back and left side of the head.

The suspect vehicle fled in an unknown direction.

Police said the victim was uncooperative at the time of the incident and provided little information as to what happened. His medical condition is unknown at this time.

Few witnesses and little evidence was collected at the scene. The area was searched extensively without results.

Anyone with information or who may have seen the incident is encouraged to call the Watsonville Police Department Investigations Bureau at 768-3350 or the tipline at 768-3544.
