Friday is deadline for running for office in November election

Planning to run for office in November? Time’s running out to file the paperwork.

The Monterey County Office of Elections says Friday at 5 p.m. is the deadline for all candidates to file their paperwork for the Nov. 4 election. The same deadline applies to place a measure on the November ballot.

If an incumbent for an office does not file by 5 p.m. on August 8, the candidate filing period for that office will automatically be extended until 5 p.m. on Aug. 13. The incumbent will not be eligible to file during the extension.

The 10-day public examination period for documents filed is from 5 p.m. on Aug. 8 to 5 p.m. on Aug. 18.
