California crews search for man near grounded boat
Authorities say crews are searching by air and sea for a captain who may have abandoned his fishing boat when it got stranded in the San Francisco Bay.
The Coast Guard says a helicopter, two search boats and a beach rover are looking near Ocean Beach after the vessel reportedly ran aground in 10 feet of water early Monday.
Coast Guard Lt. Cmdr Shawn Lansing says the captain, who has been identified as Timothy Lybrand, apparently made a call to other boaters asking for help around 3:30 a.m.
Lansing says Lybrand also intimated that he would try to swim to shore wearing a life jacket.
San Francisco Fire Battalion Chief Denise Newman says a fire rescue team has searched the deck area of the capsized vessel but could not enter the cabin.
