Woman wanted in fatal Salinas stabbing arrested by U.S. border patrol

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers have arrested a woman wanted in Salinas for the murder of a 14-year-old boy.

Mexican authorities apprehended Angela Nicole Zuniga, 22, in Tijuana Wednesday. They turned the U.S. citizen over to the custody of U.S. Marshals at the San Ysidro Port of Entry.

She was booked into Las Colinas Detention Center and is awaiting extradition back to Monterey County.

Zuniga was wanted on a $2.2 million felony warrant for her on murder charges,

According to the Salinas Police Department, Zuniga is wanted in connection with the May 2013 homicide of Ricardo Ruiz.

Ruiz, 14, was walking with friends near East Alisal Street and North Madeira Avenue when they were approached by two women who asked about their gang affiliation.

Police said at the time that after he claimed to be a gang member, one of the women stabbed him. He later died at Natividad Hospital.

“This is example of how close cooperation between local, state, federal and foreign law enforcement are apprehending fugitive gang members who think they can operate with impunity in the Salinas community,” said US Marshal Donald O’Keefe.
