Save Our Shores cleans up 694 pounds of trash from North Coast beaches

Save Our Shores’ second North Coast Cleanup Day resulted in 694 pounds of trash and debris collected from five beaches.

Volunteers on Saturday helped clean up Davenport Main, Panther, Bonny Doon, 4 Mile and Shark Tooth beaches—all of which are consistently trashed by parties, camping and heavy foot traffic.

Davenport Main Beach was the dirtiest of the five, with more than 360 pounds of waste removed. The majority of that came from one abandoned campsite. Items left behind included clothing, empty bottles and cans, food, games, a cooler, a chair and more.

Another 277 pounds was removed from Panther Beach.

The final North Coast Cleanup Day of the summer will take place from 9- 11 a.m. on Aug. 24. More information can be found online.
