Low-cost vaccines offered in Salinas Friday

Low-cost meningitis, whooping cough, diptheria and tetanus vaccines will be offered this Friday at the Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System’s weekly farmers market.

From 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., a temporary clinic will be providing the meningitis vaccine and the Tdap vaccine, which protects against three potentially life-threatening diseases: tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis, also known as whooping cough.

Tdap is a required vaccine for students entering the 7th grade. Pregnant women are advised to get a Tdap shot to help protect their unborn children and the vaccine is highly recommended for anyone around newborns, including parents, grandparents and caregivers. The meningococcal meningitis vaccine is a required immunization for freshman entering college.

The clinic will be located in the SVMHS MRI Parking Lot at 450 E. Romie Lane, corner of Wilgart Way and East Romie Lane.

Tdap vaccines will cost $70 and the meningitis vaccine is $130. Cash and personal checks will be accepted, and receipts will provided for families to see reimbursement from their insurance provider.
