Grandmother and teen girl hit by car in Pacific Grove

A 60-year-old woman and her 11-year-old granddaughter were injured Wednesday afternoon near Lover’s Point in Pacific Grove when they were hit by a car, according to police.

Police said the two were crossing the street in a marked crosswalk just after 3 p.m., when a driver identified as Gordon Eugene, 92, failed to see the women after stopping at a stop sign from 17th Street and turning left onto Oceanview Boulevard.

The 11-year-old suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula. Her grandmother suffered more serious injuries and was taken by helicopter to San Jose, but she is expected to recover.

A Cal star helicopter landed on the Pacific Grove golf course just after 3 p.m.

Jewell Avenue was blocked off at the front of Sally Griffin Senior Center.

Ambulances and other emergency vehicles were on scene as the victims were being treated and the investigation continued late into the afternoon.
