High speed chase from Pacific Grove to Salinas
Two people are behind bars after leading several agencies on a high speed pursuit across the Peninsula.
It started Friday around 11:40 pm, when police officers saw a vehicle run through a stop sign at Presidio Boulevard and Funston Avenue. The offices recognized the car as being wanted in connection to a burglary.
When the officers tried to stop the car, the suspect sped away onto Highway 68, and eventually onto Highway 1.
Law enforcement from Monterey, Seaside, Marina, Sand City, California Highway Patrol, the Presidio of Monterey, and the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office pursued the vehicle.
The suspects were stopped near the intersection of Las Palmas Parkway and River Road in Salinas. The male driver and female passenger were taken into custody.
A number of items, suspected to be stolen, were found in the car, along with illegal narcotics and burglars’ tools.
The suspects have not yet been identified by Pacific Grove Police.
The driver, a 35 year old man from Seaside, was arrested and charged with evading a peace officer, reckless driving, driving in the opposite direction of traffic, possession of methamphetamine, and being under the influence of a controlled substance.
The female passenger, a 36 year old from Pacific Grove, was arrested and charged with possession of narcotic drugs and possession of burglars’ tools.
The driver was also charged with cruelty to animals in a vehicle because a small Chocolate Labrador Retriever puppy was unsecured in the car during the chase.
Both suspects are in the Monterey County Jail, awaiting arraignment.
No one was injured.
