49ers open new stadium in Santa Clara
The San Francisco team has opened its new stadium in Santa Clara with a ribbon-cutting ceremony complete with all the opulence of their new home.
With confetti streaming down under a blue sky Thursday, there was a general feeling about the $1.2 billion building: Wow!
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh, linebacker Patrick Willis and left tackle Joe Staley joined 49ers CEO Jed York and city officials to cut the ribbons.
They used oversized red scissors with gold blades in keeping with team colors.
Hard-hat wearing construction workers lined the steps in fluorescent yellow jackets as team employees cheered.
Employees have been training and hiring for months, preparing for the first game. Food booths display landscapes of the Monterey Bay and others offer gourmet meals.
