CHP identifies two teen girls killed in Highway 1 crash

The California Highway Patrol has identified the victims of a fatal crash on Highway 1 last week as two Santa Cruz County teenagers.

Aaliyah Giselle Luna Perez, 16, was driving a white Hyundai northbound just south of Watsonville around 7 a.m. Friday when the car swerved into oncoming traffic and crashed into a truck traveling in the opposite direction.

Perez was ejected from the car. She and her passenger, 15-year-old Tianna Rose Croghan, were pronounced dead on scene. The people in the truck were not injured.

Perez did not have a license and neither girl was wearing a seatbelt, according to CHP. Investigators initially thought the younger girl was the driver, and there was some confusion last week with regards to the girls’ ages.
