Former Salinas sign language interpreter pleads no contest to sex charges

A former sign language instructor at North Salinas High School has pleaded no contest to felony exhibition of harmful material to a minor, misdemeanor child molestation, and battery.

Adam Frogel, 56, of Nevada turned himself into Salinas police in March after , authorities at North Salinas High School contacted police to report allegations of inappropriate contact between a deaf student an Frogel.

Investigators determined Frogel inappropriately touched two students over their clothes and asked a third to have sexual relations with him. The children were 15 and 16 years old.

Frogel is an employee of Sunbelt Staffing, which contracts with North Salinas High School to provide sign interpreters.

Frogel is due for sentencing on Sept. 5 and is expected to be placed on felony probation.
