Shooting victim reported on Walnut Avenue in Greenfield

Greenfield police officers say one man was shot on Walnut Avenue in Greenfield Monday.

The call came in just before 4 p.m. According to dispatchers, callers reported hearing several shots fired near Cheezer’s Pizza.

Greenfield police identified the victim as 34-year-old David Handley, who officers found sitting in his car. He’d been shot twice in the upper body and was transported to a Bay Area hospital for treatment.

Witnesses described a newer model Dodge Charger, white in color, with multiple occupants driving away from the scene and into a nearby neighborhood.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Greenfield Police Detective Medeles at 760-6277.

NewsChannel 5 reporter Jake Reiner talked to the victim’s father, who said his son has a history of gang activity.

The victim’s father said he was trying to turn his life around and was being treated for a mental disorder.

Handley’s father said he was not actively involved in gang activity and was at the wrong place at the wrong time.

This is the second shooting in Greenfield this year.
