Monterey Peninsula water officials announce rebate program

The Monterey Peninsula Water Management District has a new program aimed at reducing the amount of irrigation and stormwater runoff.

The program will help preserve the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary and prevent harmful bacteria from flowing in from the ocean.

The Monterey Bay Friendly Landscapes Rebate Program offers rebates for a number of rainwater harvesting devices and lawn replacement.

It’s based on the idea of low-impact development – or rainscapes — which are landscaping concepts designed to manage stormwater and irrigation runoff as close to the source as possible.

For more information on the program, visit the Monterey Peninsula Water Management District website or call Steve Kister at 658-5601.

Pacific Grove residents should call 648-3194.
