Man arrested in Santa Cruz with gun in car

A man was arrested in Santa Cruz Wednesday after a gun and ammunition was found in his car.

31 year old Esteban Ruiz was pulled over by a member of the Santa Cruz County Anit-Crime Team Gang Task Force on Highway 1 at Soquel Avenue, for a vehicle code violation.

The GTF member saw a firearm. It was unloaded, but concealed on Ruiz’s body. Ruiz’s license was suspended. Ammunition for the weapon was found in the car.

Ruiz was arrested for possession of a concealed firearm on his person, possession of a concealed firearm within a vehicle, and driving with a suspended license.

This is the 19th gun seized by the Gang Task Force in 2014.
