Early morning wildfire contained in Monterey
Crews were able to contain a small brush fire in Monterey within about an hour Tuesday.
The blaze at Highway 68 and Aguajito Road was reported shortly before 3 a.m. Five engines, 17 firefighters, one investigator and a battalion chief from multiple agencies responded.
The fire burned approximately a quarter acre and was contained just before 4 a.m. The fire was sparked by a tree that fell on a power line, breaking it and sending the energized line to the ground. That set nearby vegetation ablaze.
