Watsonville Police investigating stabbing Saturday night

Watsonville police arrested a 24-year-old man Saturday night after he allegedly stabbed his roommate.

Officers responding to reports of a stabbing in the area of Main Street and Pennsylvania Avenue around 10 p.m. There they found a 40-year-old man with a serious laceration his head. He was taken to Watsonville Community Hospital for treatment.

Officers determined the stabbing occurred about a block away from where they found the victim, and began searching for the suspect.

Police believe Matthew Lee Hendrix, 24, and his roommate began arguing and the altercation moved outside to the street, where Hendrix is believed to have used a razor blade to slash the other man across the head and face.

Officers located Hendrix outside a store on Main Street and arrested him on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and mayhem. He was taken to Santa Cruz County Jail for booking.
