San Diego County fire roars to life
A wildfire near the Southern California city of San Marcos has suddenly roared to life and is burning near homes.
State fire Capt. Kendal Bortisser told The Associated Press on Thursday the fire was taking off and he had no details.
The fire is one of nine wildfires are burning in San Diego County. Crews have made progress on the others.
Strong winds that fanned flames Tuesday and Wednesday had vanished until early Thursday afternoon.
Efforts were focusing the university city of San Marcos where thousands were ordered to evacuate their homes.
