Highway 129 reopened after crews contain major blaze in Watsonville

Highway 129 was reopened early Tuesday morning after fire crews were able to get a major blaze under control.

As of about 4 a.m., Watsonville police advised residents the fire had been contained and the roadways were reopened, but they urged residents to use caution because fire personnel are still working in the area.

The fire was first reported around 10 p.m. Monday, between Walker and Locust streets. Authorities say wood pallets and power lines burned, and one house was seriously damaged.

As of late last night, no injuries had been reported. The total damage caused by the fire has not yet been released.

Police shut down both sides of Highway 129 following the fire. Commuters were urged to use an alternate route. The closure was from Industrial Road to Main Street in both directions.
