Construction on Highway 1 in Santa Cruz County begins Wednesday night
An overnight construction project along eight miles of Highway 1 in Santa Cruz County will begin Wednesday, May 14.
The construction will take place between Aptos, Capitola and Santa Cruz, Caltrans officials said.
The work consists of constructing a concrete slab and barrier on northbound and southbound Highway 1 shoulders, constructing anchor blocks and installing metal beam guardrails.

Work is expected to begin Wednesday and Thursday at 9 p.m. continuing through 5:30 a.m., and at midnight Friday.
There will also be a limited amount of weekend closures between 6 am – 11 am for survey work. The majority of the work will occur between the North Aptos and South Aptos Underpasses.
Motorists should expect delays of up to 15 minutes. Electronic message signs will be used to alert motorists.
