Driver in hit-and-run turns himself into Gilroy police

A 34-year-old man involved in a hit-and-run accident that occurred last week has been identified, Gilroy police said.

The man went to the Gilroy Police Department Sunday and gave police a statement.

His name has not been released and he has not been taken into custody. No charges have been filed. The investigation is ongoing and will be turned over to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s office for review.

A 24-year-old pedestrian was struck just before 10 p.m. Friday at the intersection of 10th Street and Rosanna Street. The woman suffered serious injuries and was taken to a trauma center, where she is in stable condition. The driver fled the scene.

The Gilroy Police Department is asking the community for assistance in locating this vehicle. It is described as a full size Champagne color SUV, missing the driver’s side mirror, and was last seen traveling westbound on Tenth Street away from the scene.
