Santa Cruz firefighters arrive at mobile home park fire to find no fire hydrants

The Santa Cruz Fire Department responded to a mobile home fire at 1255 38th Avenue Friday night to find there were no fire hydrants within the mobile home park.

Crews said that forced them to locate a water source outside of the property and create a supply line. Those on the engine that arrived first said they used all one thousand-feet supply hoses they had in order to reach the flames.

Firefighters say the double-wide mobile home was fully-involved when they arrived. They were able to contain the flames to the home and created a barrier to stop it from spreading to nearby structures.

During the initial response, crews found the man who lived in the home sitting on a nearby curb. He was suffering from smoke inhalation and burn injuries. He was treated then flown to a Santa Clara County medical facility.

A neighbor said the man who lived in the home knocked on her door, with his clothes still smouldering from the fire, and advised her his house was on fire. She called for help.

The home was a complete loss and two vehicle were damaged.

The cause is still under investigation.
