Authorities find smuggled marijuana boat on Pescadero beach
Authorities in Northern California say they have seized about 1,000 pounds of marijuana left in an abandoned boat and sports utility vehicle on a beach.
San Mateo County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Deputy Rebecca Rosenblatt says federal and local investigators found about 42 bundles of marijuana weighing up to 30 pounds each inside the boat and the SUV on the Pescadero State Beach on Monday morning.
Homeland Security investigations spokesman Andrew Munoz says whoever was loading the marijuana, worth about $1 million, into the SUV aborted their plan as the vehicle apparently became stuck in the sand.
Munoz says the 30-foot twin-engine panga-style boat with a large gas tank is similar to those used frequently by drug traffickers coming directly from Mexico or a ship stationed offshore.
No arrests have been made.
