Habitual flasher sentenced in Santa Cruz County
A man prosecutors say has a history of exposing himself to people in public places has been sentenced to three years in prison.
Ken Imel, 56, was convicted of indecent exposure and has prior convictions for the same.
In August, Santa Cruz police were called to a Pacific Avenue business for reports of a man exposing himself and touching himself inappropriately while looking inside the business. The 4 a.m. incident also involved Imel attempting to gain entrance into the locked business.
A half-hour later, police were called to River Street for another report of Imel exposing and touching himself while looking through the windows of a business while looking at an employee inside.
Imel was arrested later that morning.
In November, Imel pleaded guilty to two counts of indecent exposure with priors. He also had convictions for indecent exposure on April 9, 2012 and July 12, 2012 stemming from incidents in downtown Santa Cruz.
In April, Imel was released on electronic and alcohol monitoring, allowing him to reside at a treatment program to determine if a probationary sentence was appropriate.
On Friday, it was determined Imel had failed to comply with the treatment program’s directives and he was sentenced to three years in prison. He must also register as a sex offender for life.
